Review of Quatermass 2 - The Classic 1955 BBC Television Version Starring John Robinson
Black and white-1955-This is the classic 6 chapter BBC television serial with John Robinson portraying the brilliant rocket scientist, Professor Bernard Quatermass. Things are not going well for Quatermass, as a test on his Quatermass II rocket results in a horrific explosion. This will likely result in the end of an ambitious project to colonize the moon. Meanwhile, in another part of England, a town has been plagued by a series of meteorites. One of the strange meteorites crashes in a field and is found by a farmer. Professor Quatermass is asked by Captain Dillon, his future son-in-law, to investigate. When questioned by Quatermass, the farmer who found the meteorite is uncooperative and has a strange mark on his face. Quatermass and Dillon go to a local pub and question the locals. An old man explains it's all part of a secret goverment facility that was erected on the site of a town that was bulldozed. Quatermass and Dillon visit this area and find that the old man was right. Ignoring a sign to keep out, Quatermass discovers a strange industrial complex, one which looks disturbingly similar to the planned moonbase. Suddenly, another meteor lands and the professor and Dillon investigate. The hollow meteorite breaks apart and releases an ammonia like vapor and Dillon is affected. What follows in the uncovering of the mysterious origin of these meteorites, the secret facility, and the plot for an alien invasion!
